UNESCO Chair in World Cultural and Urban Landscapes
Opening ceremony of the UNESCO Chair in World Cultural and Urban Landscapes. The UNESCO Chair is part of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme and will be established at the Institute for Urban and Regional Planning at RWTH Aachen University.
The UNESCO Chair will focus on scientific consultancy and support to Cultural and Urban Landscapes inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. This implies close cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre as well as with the advisory bodies ICOMOS, ICCROM and IUCN.
The activities of the UNESCO Chair will comprise practical consultancy, fundamental and applied research, as well as education. With these projects the Chair aims to contribute to a sustainable and responsible preservation and development of World Cultural and Urban Landscapes facing high pressure to change.
