Cultural Heritage

Dealing with history of architecture and history of art, with historical and archaeological construction sites, as well as with historically relevant building fabrics within historic building conservation has always been at the focus of teaching and research at the Faculty of Architecture at the RWTH Aachen University.

Another research focus, namely the dealing with historical and culturally significant places in urban areas and the countryside, with industrial and traffic-related buildings in the context of classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been continuously further developed at the department of Urban Design and Regional Planning over the last years, resulting in the establishment of a so-called UNESCO Chair at this very institute. The research projects listed in the following show the scope of this activity in the study of architectural history and historical construction sites and their management, which, in the trade language is linked to the term ‚Cultural Heritage‘.
