The aim of the RWTH Aachen University’s Department of Historic Building Conservation and the University of Maroua in Cameroon cooperation project was to jointly study specific characteristics relevant to the indoor climate of the traditional construction methods and the possibility of transferring those characteristics to today’s construction projects.
Four experimental buildings were developed from the concepts on the grounds of the University in Maroua. The results of the analysis were transferred to a pavilion concept, which for the first time was realized with the financial support of the Federal Ministry for International Cooperation (BMZ), ident.africa e.V. and CODEBO. In the future, about 60 children, ages 2-6 years, will be supervised and taught in the 3 buildings of the preschool.
Patron of the project is Günter Nooke, the German Chancellor's (Angela Merkel) Personal Representative for Africa in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
