Aachener Monday Evening Talks - Design by Choice
For over 30 years the Monday Evening Talks have been a highlight of university life at the RWTH Aachen's Faculty of Architecture and they are very much appreciated by many architecture enthusiasts in the region.
We would like to continue this series during the Winter semester 2015/16 and invite speakers to the Reiff that address the history and presence of mass-customization, meaning the conceptualization and production of custom manufactured products and building components in theory and practice. The series of lectures aims to show that mass-customization doesn't begin with the large number of variants enabled by digital tools, but can already be found in the early days of industrialization. Students are invited to discuss rapid-prototyping, the flexibility of tools and the origins of the industrial production of building components with the speakers.
This time the series of lectures is connected to an exhibition being held at the cultural institute Bureau Europa in Maastricht during the same time. This exhibition is conceived and curated by the Theory of Architecture teaching and research area of the RWTH Aachen in collaboration with Jules Schoonman and Adriaan Mellegers.
