Annemarie Stabel // Aachen INsideOUT – A lively neighborhood in the city center: Change of Scenery

During the Corona pandemic, it became clear how important public green open spaces are and how often they are lacking, especially in inner cities. There is a need for a change of scenery! In this proposal for the area, this was taken literally and a structure was created that serves as a walkable climbing support for climbing plants. This creates a green "scenery" that allows visitors to forget the congested inner-city surroundings. Inside the structure, an open space is created that can be used flexibly for events. The need for such outdoor gathering spaces was also increasingly demonstrated during the pandemic. Therefore, this function is to be continued on the lower floors of the former underground parking garage. Here, covered events can be held. Storage rooms, accessible via the underground car park entrance from Menoritenstrasse, provide space for appropriate equipment. Ceiling openings on the middle level create exciting gallery spaces that are also suitable for exhibitions.
