Housing
Housing Assistance for Exchange Students
The International Office tries to organize accommodation for exchange students upon their arrival.
However, for logistical reasons, successful placement cannot be guaranteed.
If the student would like to live in student housing, it is required that he or she apply personally for a space through Bewerberportal, the local student services organization.
Please note that you must send the application for housing directly to Studentenwerk yourself.
Students who have chosen to live in student housing must send the first month’s rent ahead of time. The offered room is reserved only when the first month’s rent is paid, at the latest, one month in advance of arrival! In order to finalize the housing contract, the student must pay a security deposit equal to two month’s rent on the day of arrival, or, if it is preferable, the deposit may be transferred in advance along with the first month’s rent. Transfer in advance is advisable to avoid carrying around a great deal of cash. The monthly rent varies between 250€ and 300€, depending on the age of the building and the size and furnishing of the room. These prices are for a standard dormitory room, which consists of a bed and mattress, wardrobe, desk, and lamp. (More details can be obtained from Studentenwerk Aachen). The rental contract on any particular room lasts only for one year.
