With a scientific exploration of the life work of German architect Alfred Fischer Essen (1881-1950) and the elaboration of a catalog of his architectural work a contribution to complement the recent architectural history should be done. The first-time installation of a chronologically-structured catalogue of planned and realized buildings by Alfred Fischer will also include an first analysis of the architectural design of various projects in broad therms. At the same time this classification of the architectural design and the further exploration of Alfred Fischer as a person affords a comparison with the published reports, biographies and works of his Contemporaries. With the exemplary design of new industrial buildings and impressive office buildings in the Ruhrgebiet area Alfred Fischer has created a starting point for a modern architectural development, especially in its principal place of activity - in Essen - which will work until today. Despite this special role as a successful >architect of the industry<, a critical confrontation with the influential and exemplary work, but also with the person Alfred Fischer remained. Thus, this substantial and critical paper should also revive the memory of one of the today forgotten architects, but at that time well respected figure in the German architectural scene of the 1920s. Due to the additional study of the second major life center of Alfred Fischer as a teacher and director of the >Essen artisans and crafts school<, the later called >Folkwangschule< in the years from 1911-1933, also the mutual influence of different ideas and concepts in the themes of art, craft, architecture and design theory could be presented. This doctor thesis inserts a further step to the complex development of the German Architecture in the years from 1910-1950, and should also aliten the work of the person Alfred Fischer and the function of his striking building designs for the ideas of the >Neues Bauen<.
