IMPORTANT: Temporary regulation of internships in architecture/urban planning studies during the validity of the "Supplementary Regulations to the Comprehensive Examination Regulations" of 8.5.2020.
The professional internship can be reduced to 4 months. However, it is still recommended that the internship be completed full-time. In exceptional cases, recognition in part-time employment is possible, provided that this was completed after the completed 4th semester of the Bachelor's program.
The internship period is then extended accordingly, as the total must cover 4 months full-time.
For recognition, an hourly record of the working hours signed by the office must be submitted.
This regulation applies retroactively from WS 2019/20 until the end of the transitional rule of the "Ergänzungsbestimmungen zur Übergreifenden Prüfungsordnung" on 31.03.2021. It affects students of the Master's degree program in Architecture and the Master's degree program in Urban Planning who must provide proof of internship as a prerequisite for admission to the Master's thesis in the winter semester 2020/21 and in the summer semester 2021 (the application deadline for admission to the Master's thesis in the summer semester 2021 ends on 03.03.2021).

Regular Office Internship Guidelines
The 6-month full-time office internship is a supplement to the degree program through practical work in the field of architecture/urban planning.
It is recommended that this be completed without interruption; in any case, at least 3 months must be completed at a time.
Internship periods of less than four weeks will not be recognized. The recognition of the internship is a prerequisite for the admission of the thesis.
The examination board decides on internships in related fields before the internship begins.
Applicants with a degree in a related field may also complete the 6-month compulsory internship in a related field. The examination and recognition is carried out within the framework of a separate procedure for applicants with a subject-related degree in the context of the subject-related study counseling.
The internship is to be carried out either outside the regular period of study between the Bachelor's and Master's programs (and thus outside the student status) or, for example, during a semester of leave within the Bachelor's program. It must be taken after completion of the bachelor's degree program, and in no case before completion of the 2nd year of the bachelor's degree program.
The regulations for the office internship are defined in Annex 2 of the program-specific examination regulations. The recognition of the internship takes place exclusively via the following application.
For recognition, please send the completed and signed application together with the relevant certificates to firstname.lastname@example.org for review.
You will receive an automatically generated e-mail to confirm receipt. If the application is not approved, we will contact you.
