Master plan Castra Bonnensia

Master Plan Römerlager Bonn as part of the UNESCO application "Lower Germanic Limes" (Extension of transnational World Heritage Site Frontiers of the Roman Empire)

Germany and the Netherlands are striving to expand the existing transnational World Heritage Site “Frontiers of the Roman Empire” with the Lower Germanic Limes by 2017. This UNESCO World Heritage Nomination is pursued under Dutch auspices; the German part will be attained by the LVR-Department of Archaeological Excavation of Rhineland. It includes the Roman military sites along the Roman Rhine frontier, including four Sites in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The aim of this research project is to develop long-term prospects for the conservation and sustainable development of future World Heritage Sites. In this context, Management Plans will be developed for all future World Heritage Sites. The Management Plan in Bonn-Castell is meant to serve as an exemplary project. The management concept developed for the former Castra-Bonnensia is also meant to serve as an illustrative project that can be applied to other parts of this World Heritage application as well as to other areas of the transnational World Heritage Site.
