In the center of Seoul is the Sewoon Shopping Complex, the world's only 1160-meter building. After the Korean War, the Se-woon Shopping Complex was built in 1967 as part of the city maintenance project on an area of land used during the Japanese colonial period to prevent the spread of fire. Sewoon Shopping Center was the first modern building in Korea and functions as the center of Seoul in the 1960s and 1980s. From the ground floor to the fourth floor, it was occupied by electronics stores, and from the fifth floor to the last floor, it was apartments. The architect of the Sewoon shopping complex, Soogeun Kim, said that he had applied Smithson's theory when planning Sewoon. This theory is called "Street in the air", and also based on the ideas of Team X and new brutalism. [...] However, after the 1980s, the Sewoon shopping complex suddenly fell into disrepair. [...] In 2006, the city of Seoul announced plans to demolish the Sewoon shopping center and build a park in its place. Two years later, in 2008, demolition began on the northern part and part of the promenade of the mall. However, for financial reasons, the demolition of the Sewoon Shopping Center was stopped, so only 80 m of the building was demolished.

[...] Because a new strategy would have to be chosen to fill the space and reactivate this region. These are questions that must be asked in the new development. [...]

For this reason, a huge showcase was planned at the head of the building. The showcase functions like a can for memories of Sewoon. It preserves the memories and also the history of Sewoon. Another factor I included in this "showcase" is a park with a tower where residents can spend time and create new memories. Furthermore, I have reconnected the promenade, and added two other concepts to the two promenades. [...] The goal of this project is to remember the idea of the Sewoon shopping center and reinterpret it according to the current situation.
