PRESIDENCY UND SENATE OF THE RHINE-WESTPHALIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF AACHEN

mourn the death of university professor emeritus

Dipl.-Ing. Günther Schöfl

born on 08.09.1934 in Redenitz
died on 29.12.2021 in Neuenstein-Langensall

Mr. Schöfl studied at the Technical University of Stuttgart, from which he graduated in 1962. Here he did research from 1963 to 1971, first as a research assistant and later as an academic advisor, before working as a freelancer. In 1979 he was called to the RWTH, where he held the professorship of residential construction until his retirement in 1999.

As an architect and urban planner, Mr. Schöfl was a convinced and always enthusiastic scientist. Throughout his life, he was extraordinarily interested in housing and its various scales, from the urban context to the details of building construction. He was particularly interested in researching social, economic and ecological changes and their impact on the housing market. Even after his retirement, the passionate architect and urban planner continued to devote himself to science as a member of the research group 'City and Environment' and focused on research on rural areas, especially on the question of sustainable land management. In addition, he was a sought-after expert judge and consultant for various competitions and projects.

Mr. Schöfl passed on his great expertise in an exemplary manner to students, whom he always knew how to inspire and also involved in current research topics.

With his death, RWTH Aachen University loses a highly esteemed colleague, successful scientist and popular teacher.

Our deepest sympathy goes to his family. We will always honor Mr. Schöfl's memory.

Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Lohrberg
