'Zukunft Bau' Pop-up Campus

23/06/2022

A joint project with RWTH Aachen University. Public experimentation workshop and Science Day in a former bank.

The former Wüstenrot branch on Theaterstraße in Aachen is set to become an experimental field for climate-neutral construction with the Pop-up Campus on the Future of Construction. The joint project with the RWTH Faculty of Architecture with the City of Aachen, the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development at the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBSR) and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building will initially demonstrate the transformational ability of the building until September. The process will be exhibited in the form of a public window display.

This experimental exhibition design offers space for a wide range of projects and provides cross-university constructive impetus for the necessary transition to sustainable building. The aim is for architecture faculties all over Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium to get in contact with each other at the different events and for networking to be promoted through inter-faculty communication. Students’ research work developed at teaching and research institutions should be reflected in practice in the Pop-up Campus.

On Thursday, June 30, 2022, the Growth Area Built and Lived Environment of RWTH Aachen University will host a Science Day at the Pop-Up Campus from 10am to 8pm. The Science Day aims to foster inter- and transdisciplinary exchange in relation to urgently needed solutions for a livable future for cities and human settlements. Drivers such as climate change, individualization, digitalization, as well as energy and mobility transitions ensure that built and lived spaces must adapt, reorient themselves, and be restructured so they are more sustainable and also more resilient. These issues will be discussed in different sessions and presentations, where solutions will be developed. It is not necessary to register for the event. Further information is available here.
