Master Thesis by Lisanne Wingels receives BDA SARP Award 2022 Distinction
The BDA and the Polish Association of Architects SARP presented this year's BDA-SARP Award in Berlin. The bilateral prize for the promotion of young architects, endowed with € 2,500, is awarded to graduates in architecture from both countries.
The jury consisting of Daria Kieżun (architect, Wroclaw), Silvia Schellenberg-Thaut (BDA architect, Atelier ST, Leipzig), Hubert Wąsek (architect, Częstochowa), Feyyaz Berber (Feyyaz Berber architect BDA, Cologne) and Michael Kühnlein (BDA architect, Kühnlein Architektur, Berching) awarded a prize to Lisanne Wingels for her master thesis Mö 3 Everything has to go! art | craft | work in the new Klöpperhaus.
The design implements an "inner-city artisan house" in an existing building in Hamburg, which was erected as a department store in 1967 while retaining the historic façade from 1907.
Credit is given for the clever attempt to adapt the old fabric to new spatial and functional narratives. The scenario was skillfully inscribed in a clearly defined building structure. The careful transformation of the existing succeeds in preserving the traces of the past, respecting its best and creating a successful place for today's needs.
The project proves that conversion, even if not easy, can be appropriate, even necessary, for sustainable building and living.
